About This Project

Hello and welcome!

About Me

I’ve been translating as part of a translation group for the past 3 years, dedicating my blood, sweat and worship to a single novel so far. I’ve been wanting to try something new lately, so this is basically me opening a window in incognito mode~

As of August 2021, I will only be working on The Grand Princess and a few short stories as a pilot experiment. (Short stories deserve love too.)

Translation Style Disclaimer

The translation will lean heavily towards English writing conventions and terminology. I will not always preserve the original sentence structure when translating from Chinese to English. Oftentimes, it will end up being a series of fragmented sentences strung with commas. I will do my best to find the middle ground for conveying the intentions of the original text while preserving as much of its original structure.

Title Translation

Historically, 长公主 can refer to the Eldest Princess in terms of birth order or an honorary title for the Emperor’s sister, which I have decided to translate as Grand Princess. This is based on the Biographical Dictionary of Chinese Women, Volume II: Tang through Ming (Lee, Lily; Giles, Su. ed. 2015). The main character is already the eldest princess of her generation, but she only becomes the Grand Princess after her brother is the Emperor.

There is a similar title in English: Princess Royal, but that is a title customarily granted to a monarch’s eldest daughter. The catch is that is any given princess in Imperial China could become the “Grand Princess” as long as her blood brother sits on the throne. There can be multiple princesses honored as “Grand Princess” whereas there can only be one Princess Royal at a time; for example, Queen Elizabeth II was never honored as Princess Royal because her aunt, Princess Mary, already held that title.

How to Use JJWXC: https://shokotranslates.wordpress.com/2020/05/30/30-5-20-update-jjwxc-guide/

Support the original work! This is a fairly recent novel, so creating an account to favorite the author and novel and purchasing VIP chapters will help the novel on the charts.

If you purchase the VIP chapters in-app, it will cost ~$4.50 to buy all the current VIP chapters (152 chapters). It is a bit more expensive to buy on the desktop site (~$6.00).

The writing is solidly crisp and clean, so if you want to read ahead in a DIY MTL fashion, you can use Google Chrome and the Zhongwen Chrome extension to read on desktop. It is quite doable and a strong incentive to buy the later VIP chapters!

If JJWXC seems intimidating, consider buying a Ko-Fi. I will convert that amount to JJWXC Overlord Tickets and shower the original novel with your support (which goes towards the author’s overall income). For reference, two Ko-Fi is roughly equivalent to all the VIP chapters.

I will not take donations for the translations; any donations will go towards supporting the original author.

Each mine thrown as part of the Overlord Ticket system is equal to 100 JJWXC points (~$0.17). You can get 20,000 for $34 points through PayPal or the same number of points for ~$31.83 through Taobao. I buy through Taobao because a little can go a long way 🙂

Overlord Tickets as of 7/2: 170 mines

NOTICE

Do not repost the translations elsewhere. It is disheartening to see my hard work on another site when adding a link is much faster than copying and pasting the text.

Happy reading!
